This is a potato, I named him "Spudnick." He was given to me by my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and don't even worry, it was probably the most thoughtful Valentine I had ever received. Something most people don't think about is the fact that the potato is actually like a giant seed, which got me thinking... "I need to get my seeds started for spring!" So This blog is dedicated to sharing with you all how I plant my seeds.
First: Make a selection of the seeds you would like to use, and make sure to check the expiration date on the seed pack. (Old seeds may not grow.) If you are awesome like my friend Ed than you would have already harvested your seeds from last year's planting.
Second: It is DEFINITELY too cold in Idaho to plant anything outside so gather your planting pots or a plastic starter kit that you can buy for a few dollars at the store and some potting mix (dirt) and fill up the container with dirt.
Third: I like to get my dirt we first before planting the seeds because if you don't the seeds may float to the top.
Fourth: Place the seeds in the dirt, I usually put more than one seed in each cell to make sure I get at least one good start. Usually on the packet it will tell you how deep to plant the seeds, I normally get a pen or pencil to create a little hole.
Fifth: Get your fingers dirty by gently pressing the dirt on top of the seeds.
The dirt is a little wet already so your finger will probably look awesome like mine.
I got creative this year and used an old water bottle as a planter. Look at how cute my peas and spinach look.
MORE PEAS! (and brussel sprouts)
Basil, they haven't grown any bigger in a week... I wonder if the seeds were fake?
